Judgment

Posted By: Alan Jones on February 12, 2019

I was a principal of a suburban high school outside of Chicago. For years, I was able to convince changing boards of education that zero based discipline policies were not a policy direction to entertain--although many districts around us were jumping on the bandwagon. When asked by board members what is an effective policy---I always responded..we have very good deans, whose judgement---common sense, understanding the context, providing options---was the soundest strategy. I wish I could say I was successful with our instructional program--but, I am most proud that our Dean's office really worked well for out students.
