how can elite institutions check their privilege?

Posted By: Brian Ellerbeck on October 8, 2018

It's certainly right to indicate that elite institutions of the sort from which Brett Kavanaugh graduated need to find ways to educate for character and not merely to reward privilege. However, in many cases, these institutions need a lot of help in figuring out how to perform that work, and it is by no means clear how to navigate such work within the institution itself. Both alumni and parents have been rewarded handsomely in many cases for merely being part of the club; suggesting that "club membership" requires the kind of critical engagement you indicate is necessary is likely to meet with resistance and scorn, if not the withdrawal of financial support. How would you suggest that these institutions approach such an undertaking?
