Very nice essay! It would be nice to see a comparison of the 'Talks to teachers' given by the Absolute pragmatist Josiah Royce, as a way of answering the question of whether the distinction between final and more recent formatulations is one that cuts across the absolutism versus anti-absolutism divide, or seeing if it maps onto some other terrain of discourse. It is a shame the Roycean 'talks' lie hidden away in the Harvard archives. From what I have seens in the abstracts published, he says the point of teaching is to decompose and synthesize confused ideas into a more adequate whole. Sounds good to me!
