What you wrote about Geertz (applied to education) only reflects back how thinkers like James and Dewey influenced him at some other level than direct application or within particular culture.
What you point to can be derived from a good reading of Democracy and Education, 1916, put into experimental action in a local community (classroom or school) pretty much as Dewey suggested in the final paragraphs of that book.
