|In having read Bernard Gassaway's book and this most recent article, he|
is one of the prophetic voices advocating for needs of our youth
in public education. He believes strongly in the "audacity of hope",
by daring to believe and live by example that all youth are educable.
He not only "talks the talk," but "walks the walk" and I am grateful
that he has not succumbed to the foibles of money or power,
to represent the disenfranchised of our educational system,
our youth of color. His message is tranforming, and I pray that
the education bureaucrats take some portion of his experience
and level of commitment to empower our children to succeed
in every field of endeavor to believe in themselves and abilties.
This particular article sends a clarion call to the larger community that there are countless examples of teachers who still believe that
children, despite their station in life, have the capacity to learn and
become contributing members of our society.
Thank you Bernard and the teachers you have cited in your article
for making a difference in the lives of our youth.
