It's the Stupid Tests, Smarty!

Posted By: Dick Schutz on November 7, 2008

McSwan and Rollstad make a convincing case: The tests being used are no damn good. The thing is, Labov and others made essentially the same case 40 or so years ago. No one was listening then; no one is listening now. How many states have thrown out the stinkin tests? I don’t know the answer, but I’d bet “none. “

The article was published in 2006. In this age of “data driven” instruction and “programs based on scientifically based research” one would think we’d now be able to report “gains” in this matter. The “deficits” aren’t with the kids.
