Read a Post for Local Theories of Teacher Change: The Pedagogy of District Policies and Programs | | Reply to this Post | | James Spillane Article | Posted By: Harold Jones on May 22, 2002 | | I think Spillane has begun to clarify the idea of how the behaviorist tradition in schools is detrimental to teachers as well as students. The dependence on reward systems, external motivation, etc. does not reflect current thoughts in psychology. Further, it seems to be contrary to the results of much of the recent research. If we are going to "solve" school problems the solutions might begin with a massive change from behaviorist learning to cognitive learning.
