The Classroom Teacher and Standardized Tests

The investigation described in this article has focused attention on an aspect of the school testing program which is of fundamental importance—the use of standardized test results at the classroom level. Through a questionnaire and through interviews, information was obtained regarding the use made by elementary and high school teachers of standardized test results and also with respect to opinions of these teachers about standardized tests. Details concerning the data obtained were given in connection with the discussion of the use of tests by classroom teachers in grouping, guidance, diagnosis, marking, and promotion.
