Since its founding in 1857, Illinois State Normal University has devoted all its energies to the preparation of teachers, at first for elementary schools only, and later for both elementary and secondary schools. This has resulted in a unified program of teacher education,which, by 1907, had developed and expanded to the extent that the University began granting the degree of Bachelor in Education.
