Effective teaching of reading in Grades IV through VIII, as in the primary grades, is directed at certain broad and significant goals. It enables the pupil to make use of reading as a means of extending and enriching his experiences, of fulfilling his desirable purposes, of satisfying his wants wholesomely, and of developing his worthy interests.
