Basal Instructional Materials in Reading

The reading act always involves printed or written material to be read for a recognized purpose. In this sense, any material used in the act of reading is basic to that act. To give unique meaning to this chapter, therefore, one must find a special meaning of basic as it applies either to the unique way in which the materials are used in the act of reading or to the specialized nature of the selected content.
