The relationships of mother to infant, of parent or parent- surrogate to child, of teacher to child and to youth—these are the contexts in which we are educated. If these adult-child relationships are consistently nurturing and accepting, the learnings of the unique child-organism will be grounded in human and positive social values. If the adult-child milieu is more consistently hostile and rejecting, the education of that child will be oriented toward less human values with resultant behavior inimical to positive growth.
