The New Teacher

It is essential is to find a way to transmit an understanding of the deep and complex new meaning of teaching and schooling as it is being formed and formulated currently without locking it prematurely into a potentially harmful or distorting label, metaphor, or slogan. We might do better, then, to talk about the "new teacher" or the "newly emerging concept of teaching and schooling" without characterizing it initially in a way that does not invite additional discussion and curiosity about what it is. I will adopt this strategy in this chapter.
