Ways of Knowing: Their Meaning for Teacher Education

The education of America's teachers is an enormously complex enterprise. This chapter, however, is concerned with one aspect of teacher education: the nature and quality of the intellectual life of students enrolled in preservice and in-service teacher education programs. I shall discuss here what those teaching in schools and colleges of education might do within the framework of existing programs to enhance the quality of intellectual life for students in those programs.
