CityWorks: Redefining Vocational Education

In the first section we focus on the technical aspects of this innovation, the curricular projects, activities, and content that give CityWorks its definition and that differentiate it from the model of vocational training it replaced. The second section provides a sketch of how political and economic events have shalped vocational education, and how recent changes at the federal level are helping to create fertile ground for "growing" this local innovation. In the remainder of the chapter we focus on the process of change, outlining both the strategies we used to try to create a professional culture within a vocational school and the lessons we learned about the dynamics of political and normative change.
