What can be learned by contrasting two recent educational protests--the CTU strike in Chicago and the American University in Cairo student strike? Though on the surface, these strikes are quite distinct, this commentary provides a way of interpreting core features of educational protest and argues that the space between what institutions promise and what they can ultimately deliver will continue to be a source of anger among students, reformers, families, politicians, and educators.
