Is The Conservative Right?

A FAVORITE DOGMA OF EDUCATIONAL conservative is that schools seldom if ever lead and create; they always follow and reflect. This dogma is sharply challenged by educational liberals: the ideological weight of economic systems, political institutions, all sorts of cultural patterns, is not overlooked; it is however held to be amenable to control and direction wherever schools are willing to assume the obligations, skills, and kinds of knowledge which such control and direction demand.
