What is more difficult to do is to argue for an understanding of global citizenship sophisticated enough to stand up adequately to the challenges of social life in the global village. Even more difficult still is to map out what teachers need to know and be able to do in order to educate students for global citizenship. The implicit purpose of Educating Citizens for Global Awareness is to do just that, and the books editor, Nel Noddings, has done an excellent job, through her selections and her own contributions, in tacking back and forth between big-picture philosophical theorizing about what education for global citizenship is and why we need to do it, and concrete approaches to curricular transformation.
