When I met Tim Rasinski at the National Reading Conference in 2002, I was delighted to have the opportunity to thank him. I have always found his writing accessible for teachers. As I compile readings for undergraduate pre-service educators to explore in reading education courses, I find that I always include his work because it is important and accessible. The influence of the National Reading Panelís (2000) inclusion of fluency as one of the five major components in the learning to read process has propelled a wealth of recently published fluency-related texts, yet I found myself impressed with new information and the immediate usefulness of Rasinskiís new book, The Fluent Reader. I began reading and making mental notes for the book review when I spotted a topic I had wanted to model and discuss in depth with my undergraduate students: reading aloud.
