In the last decade attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has proba­bly received more attention than any other disorder. There is an ocean of professional literature on ADHD. Still, amid this ocean there are areas that have not yet been extensively explored. Too many books on ADHD are of the "cookie cutter" variety, which merely repeat very general information on ADHD, or they are those that present an author's idiosyncratic and typically empirically unsupported vision of treatment and/or etiology. Separating the useful and insightful from the rest can be a real problem. However, in this case the distinction is easy. Teeter has a long record of distinguished scholar­ship, and her latest effort only continues this tradition. Chapters 1 and 2 provide an overview of characteristics of ADHD and etiology. One of the more interesting aspects of these introductory chapters is the transactional model of ADHD. Teeter's transactional model is analo­gous to the goodness-of-fit model that stresses the importance of the interac­tion between individual traits and environmental factors. In...
