Necessity of teaching credentials
|Posted By: Sharon Hall on April 25, 2001|
|I do believe it is important to have teaching credentials in the academic environment. Pedagogical skills are more effeciently learnt in an education programme than by experience only in most cases.|
The necessity of the Masters is dependent on the level of the academic environment that one will be working in. A masters is needed, at least in Jamaica, at the tertiary level but is not a prerequisite at the secondary level. One may however pursue their Masters in education for their own satisfaction even if they have no plans to work at the tertiary level.
I must say that I beleive that once one has at least a Diploma in education, the Masters does not have to be in Education.
