Study Skills

Posted By: Martha Murphy on April 29, 2003
Thanks. I have asked Marybeth Munroe to share some of her materials or sources with you.

I was happy to learn that one of our schools, Phoenix High, will try a Freshman Academy that includes study skills and tutoring. At risk 9th graders (defined by 8th grade academic assessment scores) will forego their science class, which many of them don't pass anyway. They will be placed in smaller learning groups with one alternate day block class which will provide reading and study skills instruction and tutoring for their other classes.

That is, it will be tried if funding is available! A lot of our schools are cutting teaching staff.
