In this era of academic standards, isn't it disturbing that there can be so many inconsistencies between instructors? Imagine a company where different managers set their own "standards" as to what is considered to be a good or bad employee. A company that had these type of inconsistent policies would probably have a lot of unhappy employees and go out of business.

Why not have students create their own rubric for an assignment? I've done this at the high school level. It creates an improved atmosphere of student buy in to an assignment.

What exactly are your expectations for your students? Are they different from your colleagues? How do you think having inconsistent expectations could affect student performance?
