Study Skills

Posted By: Martha Murphy on April 1, 2003
If you revisit your curriculum, I would love to see it.

We have a reading specialist here at our ESD who teaches "Every Teacher A Reading Teacher" to high school teachers. It is a wonderful training and a lot of the scaffolding strategies included are study skills. I hope all the teachers start to use the strategies, but my instinct is that it will be perceived as slowing down the classes too much. And for some students, it will! I think high school teachers in general believe it's the student's responsibility to know how to keep up by the time they reach high school. That's why I'd like to see a separate class period and student mentors. I see learning how to learn as an important part of career development.
