Making or Unmaking?

|It is indisputable that the cost of higher education has increased markedly over four decades and has dramatically increased in the last decade. This has indeed created hardships for all but high-income families.|
But this hasn't resulted in the "Unmaking" of colleges and universities. In general, it seems to me that both public and private institutions are thriving and for-profit institutions are doing quite well financially, if not functionally.
Easing the financial burden on students involves income redistribution, and we know how well that is working out these days.
