"Kids can’t learn in school if their homes are comparable to Frank McCourt’s"
That puzzles me since Mr. McCourt became a successful teacher and very successful writer. (This is not intended as an apologia for poverty or broken homes or violent families; but it might be a reminder that reality, including achievement in school, is complex and not reducible to simplistic factors.)
