The Pedumum is Still Swinging and the Clock is Striking Thirteen

Posted By: Dick Schutz on August 30, 2005

The question that Mead asked over 40 years ago is still as fresh and apt now as it was then: [Why should we] “ involve[e] ourselves over and over in pendulum swings between one hoary and unsatisfactory solution and its opposite?”

Answer: Internal and external politics and economics have all-but driven out all logic and reasoning about the whys, wherefores, and wherewithals related to schooling. Dogma rules, and it’s been extended to encompass the conduct of educational research.
