Teacher's Unions

Posted By: John Pomeroy, Jr on November 20, 2001

I am the President of CSUMB's SCTA chapter, and just recently attended a leadeship conference that they sponsored. There was about 200 students present at the conference, many of whom reported growing numbers on their own campuses. As one of the smallest schools in the CSU system, CSU Monterey Bay has only about nine members, but of all the things that our teachers of tomorrow club sponsors, SCTA has been the thing where the most interest has been shown. I cannot speak for current teachers, but for the upcoming teachers, the union is popular. With districts such as Los Angeles and San Francisco merging chapters of NEA and AFT, I foresee more popularity in the future.
