I agree with Susan. I am also a Volunteer Firefighter (Lieutenant). As a female I am in the minority but that does not deminish what I do.

A great majority of the NYFD are male. It stands to reason that those who perished from the department were male.

I believe that most people see through the gender and look at the heart of the matter. They look at the job they did (and do) not if they are male and female. Is what I do any more or less important simply because I am a woman? I don't think so!
