Liberalism and Its True Definition

Posted By: Peggy Weeks on October 1, 2002
I am truly tired of reading definitions of liberalism that miss the point entirely. True liberals do not accept and embrace as their own all philosophies or beliefs of others regardless of content. Rather, true liberals are willing to listen to differences, to consider them and then to decide in the freedom of their hearts and minds where they stand. Liberals are not anarchists. Liberals are willing to consider that they do not know, that there may be another way of seeing things. That does not mean in any way that they always agree with someone else.
