I am taking a graduate online paper using blackboard discussion boards. I have been very excited about the level of the discussion that has developed this year, but still have concerns about student learning. How do I know if the students are really learning from these discussions? I am also trying to justify to myself the idea of giving marks to students for taking part in online discussions. I don't give marks for attendance at tutorials in campus courses, and is this not the same kind of thing? However, I have found if I do not give marks for contribution in online discussions, then the discussions soon dry up. Best wishes Ruth Gasson Senior Lecturer Dunedin College of Education |
