Re: rural ethnographies... where are they?

Posted By: Regina Smardon on June 9, 2004
I am a graduate student who is collecting fieldwork for a rural educational ethnography. I am having trouble locating full length ethnographic studies of rural American communities and even more trouble locating ones that focus on education -Shirley Brice Heath's work being an exception. I am astounded by the huge number of urban ethnographies in comparison to rural ones, especially among educational ethnographies. My advisor is assigning me work from the 1940's and 50's to read. Is this really all there is?!? Can anybody suggest more recent work to read that touches on education?
