PBL and Basic Skills

Posted By: Mary Heape on April 28, 2004

PBL can be used to teach everything from Basic Skills to Critical Thinking. PBL is a very important tool in teaching self-efficacy. It is also instrumental in helping students become more self-regulatory as well. The important thing is to have very clear rubrics that let the students know exactly what is expected of them before they begin the project. The students can be involved in developing the rubrics. There are a number of good websites and good books on using projects. I like interdisciplinary projects that have multi-modal input as well as multi-modal assessment.
