Address at the Inauguration of the Dean

THE following addresses were delivered on the occasion of the installation of William Fletcher Russell, Ph.D., LL.D., as Dean of Teachers College, Columbia University, on April 10, 1928.—EDITOR. OPENING ADDRESS CLEVELAND E. DODGE Vice-Chairman, Board of Trustees, Teachers College BEFORE addressing our new Dean, it seems fitting to refer to his predecessor, Dr. James E. Russell, who for more than a quarter of a century has been the head of this Institution. The best proof of his ability and success is Teachers College itself. Starting with a handful of students, the enrollment has increased by leaps and bounds and the College has become well known throughout the world. Dr. James E. Russell, to a far greater extent than any one else, has been responsible for this success.
