Many persons in the field of pediatric nursing have for some time felt the need of a reference which identified significant psychiatric concepts of child care and focused them specifically upon situations in which nurses might be involved with parents and children. We now have such a reference in Miss Blake's beautifully written book. The author's rich personal experience with children has enabled her to write with great warmth and understanding. The reader is constantly aware that this is the work of a person who has deep affection for and understanding of children. There are nine chapters in the book. The first is introductory in nature—setting the tone and stating the purpose of the work as a whole. The content in chapters 2 through 9 is presented developmentally from the prenatal period through adolescence.
