This book is a Festschrift honoring the Harvard personologist on his seventieth birthday. It consists of papers by eighteen students or colleagues, reflecting the variety and scope of Murray's influence on the study of personality. Among the papers are case presentations, studies of creative writers and their works, formal research reports on personality dimensions, descriptions of research methodology, and essays emphasizing issues such as ideology, ethics, values, and creativity. Murray's bibliography is appended. Several contributions are excellent, but the over-all quality is diluted by the inclusion of papers that would probably not otherwise have been published in present form. The book contains revisions of previously given talks, papers based on old data gathered when the writer collaborated actively with Murray, premature reports of work yet in progress, and postscripts to work more fully reported elsewhere.
