Baller's book presents a sampling of articles and excerpts from books in developmental psychology that is adequate for most beginning students in education or educational psychology. Most of the authorities one would look for are represented—Gesell, Sontag, Dorothea McCarthy, and Horace B. English, for example. In addition to the usual treatment of inherited traits and the physiological aspects of growth, there is also an extensive coverage of the dynamic aspects as well, as represented by contributions from the thought and research of Rogers, Maslow, Redl, and Goodwin Watson. Baller deliberately tries to cover a wide range of sophistication and receptivity in Ms reading audience, which probably accounts for his including excerpts from McCalls Magazine and the Encyclopedia Americana, as well as more scholarly articles by Paul H.
