Teachers' Use of Leisure

Although the inference is risky, there is plausibility in the argument that the style—enthusiastic or passive, committed or uninvolved—in which a man spends his free time reflects aspects of his personhood that are likely to influence all he does, including his productive labor and his functioning as a citizen. In this empirical survey of how teachers use their leisure, the authors find a tendency, the more ominous by virtue of its balanced presentation, for teachers to invest their hours away from the classroom passively, listlessly, dully.
