Sharply criticized by Kilpatrick and adversely affected by World War I, her ideas, though meteoric in their public appeal, went into rapid eclipse. It is appropriate at a time of great national ferment about all aspects of education that Maria Montessori should be rediscovered. Her system, her philosophy, and her method have a beautiful symmetry and wholeness that transcend much of the fragmentary nature of current efforts at educational reform.
