CONNIE GODDARD, Ph.D., is an independent scholar who began her interest in the history of education while working and studying at Teachers College in the 1970s. She received a doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2005 and has taught at schools and prisons in New Jersey, Chicago, and Romania.
