    LAUREN MADDEN, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Elementary Science Education at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ. She holds a PhD in Science Education, MS in Marine Science, and BA in Earth Sciences: Oceanography. Her goal is to enhance scientific literacy and the health of the planet through teaching and learning. She currently serves as PI on a US EPA-funded professional development project focused on integrating environmental education across the curriculum in K-5 classrooms, EcoTeachers: Protecting Water and Connecting Minds, and as co-PI on an NSF-funded Noyce Teaching fellows project recruiting future physics teachers. She is currently writing an elementary science teaching methods textbook and set to begin a new professional development initiative focused on the NGSS and Climate Change for K-8 teachers.

    MANUEL FIGUEROA, Ph.D. is the chair of the Department of Integrative STEM Education at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). He prepares pre-service teachers to become K-12 technology and engineering educators. His classroom-based research involves engaging college students in human centered design and improving creativity. His lab-based research involves the development of nanoparticle coatings for various applications, including surface enhanced Raman scattering and anti-fouling surfaces. He also develops biotechnology and nanotechnology inspired lessons that naturally integrate the STEM disciplines. He received his PhD in biomedical engineering from Drexel University and was an NSF Graduate STEM Fellow in K-12 Education (GK-12).
