TCR announces the end of the current editors' term.
Teachers College president, Tom Bailey, has decided to make a change in the editorial team for the Teachers College Record, effective July 1, 2019. As many of you know, I have been editing TCR since 1995 and was joined by Lyn Corno in 2000. We have enjoyed working with the wide range of scholars published in the journal and have had the support of many dedicated members of our Editorial Advisory Board over the years. We have also had the privilege of working with a terrific editorial office team who are the key to keeping all the moving parts of a major journal running smoothly. If you have not looked at our editorial page recently, all of the Board members and the editorial office team are listed there, and we cannot thank them enough.
TC Record has been published for well over 100 years. During our time as editors we have introduced many new dimensions, beginning with a large and accomplished editorial board and anonymous peer review for both conceptual and empirical papers. We have moved to online publication and eventually a video series with our authors. Over the past quarter century the journal has grown from a quarterly print publication to one with fourteen issues each year and an online publication with new content appearing twice each week and highlighted in our newsletter. The expansion of content mirrors the expansion of educational research and the growing interest in the field.
We have been able to maintain low per page charges for the journal for our institutional subscribers, and we introduced the first very low cost digital subscriptions for individuals. Moreover, the journal has remained solvent during difficult times for academic publishing.
Although there has been much work and many joys, we take the most pleasure in having had the opportunity to work with a wide range of scholars, junior scholars to senior scholars. And, in light of our long editorial term, we have had the special treat of watching junior scholars grow into senior scholars, all on the pages of TCR.
The College will be announcing plans for the future of the Record in the near term.
