A work of art touches us on many levels and moves us to new dimensions of life. The extension of consciousness it makes possible enhances our sense of being; and no one becomes a professional teacher of art who does not on some level know this to be the case. The responsibilities of such a teacher, the theories and research relevant to his task are clearly and thoroughly reported in Art Education. Since it is about art education and does not pretend to be a work of art, the yearbook offers no aesthetic experiences to the reader; but, as a largely descriptive anthology, it performs its functions clearly and well. It seems to me that the fourteen contributing writers were particularly well chosen for the task of producing a unified text.
