The Preparation of Teachers for the Education of Gifted Children

The setting and scope of this problem scarcely need restatement in this chapter. Yet, familiar wording gives direction to realistic efforts to solve problems involved in the issue and may be used as the fertile ground out of which educational preparation to serve gifted youth will find productive opportunity. Serving gifted and talented youth is a problem in practically every classroom in our country. These unusual children may appear almost anywhere. Therefore, their educational nurture is in the hands of practically every teacher in our broad and varied land: the fully certified teacher, the substitute, the substandard, the overburdened, the indifferent, and the devoted.
