    TED N. INGRAM, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the department of General Counseling at Bronx Community College, CUNY. Since 2007, Professor Ingram has prepared first-year students with the requisite tools needed to succeed in college. Dr. Ingram maintains a presence at professional conferences related to higher education, presenting on issues that reflect his research interests: underrepresented students experiences in higher education, African American male achievement gap, and the recruitment and retention of students of color in community colleges. Ingram has published his research in several book chapters, referees journal outlets, and other scholarly sources. Those publications includes “Realizing the Dream Realizing the Dream: African American males’ narrative that encouraged the pursuit of doctoral education” and “Motivational factors of African American men enrolled at community colleges.” Both articles are scheduled to appear in the Journal of Research Initiatives in January. Ingram and colleagues’ article (2015), “Bridging Student Engagement and Satisfaction: A Comparison between Historical Black Colleges and Universities and Predominantly White Institutions” has appeared in the Journal of Negro Education. Recently, Dr. Ingram has received approval from Information Age, Inc. to complete a book, Engaging African American Men in Community College”. This text is being published within the Contemporary Perspectives on Access, Equity, and Achievement series and is designed to provide an overview and better understanding of the rich and diverse experiences of African American male students attending community colleges. In 2015, Dr. Ingram has co-edited, Exploring Issues of Diversity within Historically Black Colleges & Universities, an examination of the historical and contemporary dynamics of diversity as well as the realities, challenges, and opportunities in the context of HBCUs. In 2014, Dr. Ingram received the CUNY Chancellor’s Research Fellowship for conducting studies to improve academic performance among community college students. Dr. Ingram holds a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University at Albany, S.U.N.Y.; a master's of higher education administration from Rowan University, and a PhD in higher education (administration) from Indiana University. His dissertation and research was titled, “From Challenged to Triumphant” examines persistence among 18 African American male doctoral students enrolled in Predominantly White Institutions.
