Activity-Oriented Models of lnformation-Based Instructional Environments

The following chapter by two Russian psychologists attempts to provide an answer to a very basic question about the uses of computers for instruction: Why should we use them? In the West, answers to this question historically have been sought in qualities that computer-assisted instruction is alleged to provide or facilitate, such as motivation or self-pacing.
