In the Face of Darkness: A Re-affirmation

Educators, parents and students are now asking: “What will World War II do to education?” This is a timely and pertinent question and I hope that it will be thoroughly discussed these early weeks of the new academic year. If this question arises only out of fear, however, and the answers are all fear-conditioned, the consequences may merely be to deepen our current pessimism. A question becomes a “good” one only when those who deal with it assume that they are engaged in a genuine educational enterprise.
