At a reception a few years ago, an effusive guest gushed to Lord Bertrand Russell, "I can hardly wait 'til you die because I want to write your biography." "That," replied the aged Russell, "is what keeps me going." While we might puzzle over what keeps Adam Curie going, his life would also make a fascinating biographical study. Scholars do change interests during the course of their lives, but Curie seems to have outdone most of his colleagues. Perhaps, though, the change has not been for the best. Curle began his professional career as a social psychologist with the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London. After a brief period as a lecturer in psychology at Oxford, he became in 1952 professor of education at Exeter University.
