Designed to be helpful to those who may be planning nontraditional programs in higher education, this collection of essays is based on traditional forms of studies of needs and desires of students and potential students, of accrediting procedures and problems, learning aids, credits, and degrees. Its authors seem to be more concerned with forms and structures than with the difficult problems of helping individuals educate themselves. Nevertheless, they do discuss some critical issues.
The opening sentence of the first chapter (Cross and Valley) might cause one to wonder what is meant by "ready acceptance" in saying that "few innovations in higher education have met with more ready acceptance by a diversity of people and institutions than nontraditional study in its various forms."
