PRESIDENT Butler of Columbia University has been bold in avowing the necessity of a better social order. He has done more than his Commission on Economic Reconstruction*, which has recently reported. This commission, one gathers, was appointed to disinfect Columbia’s nest fouled by the Technocrats before their summary ejectment. Here are studies, made at a time of national crisis, by a score of the ablest economists of the country’s best universities. The whole presents a sad picture of the institutional lag which we bear so much about.
